Let’s start this video series talking about IDC (indirect costs), also known as F&A (Facilities and Administrative fees); a topic that no one likes.

These videos are a way to think through the role IDC plays in our research enterprise and how to best talk about them with our staff, faculty and stakeholders (and family members, if necessary).

The Research Pyramid

This is a description of the life cycle of a research project and how it relates to IDC. It covers the basics and hopefully allows you to think about the scope of projects and all that it takes to conduct research at an AAU and R1 university.

IDC Rates

I’m often asked about UF’s IDC rate. I wish I could simply – and quickly - answer this question. The technically correct answer is that it depends. Unfortunately, that makes it seem ad hoc; and referring to it as ‘negotiated’ doesn’t help. Maybe this video, at about 6 minutes long, will help.
