Dr. Jackie Burns

Dr. Jackie Burns is the UF/IFAS Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station (FAES), the research arm of UF/IFAS. She oversees the UF/IFAS research mission and administration of the UF/IFASIFAS research enterprise. Since her appointment in November 2014, the number and dollar value of awards increased by 40 percent and 11 percent, respectively. Agricultural research expenditures were at $167 million in federal FY 2015, putting the rank of UF/IFAS at no. 2 of all higher education institutions in the U.S. Her office administers more than $9 million in resources that are used to strengthen the capacity and innovation of UF/IFAS research.
Dr. Burns holds a B.S. and M.S. in horticulture from the University of Arkansas and a Ph.D. in horticulture from the Pennsylvania State University. After working for the USDA/ARS as a Research Scientist in Athens, GA, she joined the faculty at the UF/IFAS Citrus Research and Education Center (CREC) in Lake Alfred, FL. Dr. Burns was the Center Director at the CREC before her appointment as the UF/IFAS Dean for Research and Director of the FAES. As Center Director, Jackie administered trans-disciplinary, international, and mission-oriented citrus programs that served a diverse stakeholder group. Her career research portfolio includes production and post-production agriculture activities with a number of diverse specialty crops.
