The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) has made a solid commitment to make its plant-breeding program one of the strongest and most diverse programs in the country. The UF/IFAS plant-breeding program has helped to establish Florida as an international leader in agricultural production. The combination of traditional cross-breeding techniques and cutting-edge technology allows UF/IFAS breeders to develop new plant varieties with higher yields, better flavor and improved resistance to pests and diseases. This site contains the history and overview of the groundbreaking UF/IFAS plant-breeding program.
