IFAS Faculty ----

The partnership of extension and research is an essential ingredient to our success for it creates a knowledge bridge between citizens and the academy and as such ensures a value equation that is recognized and supported. Today that knowledge bridge to our citizens leads to a modern future that envisions a vibrant agribusiness, but also preserves our natural resources and delivers a science base that sees IFAS faculty defining the leading edge in issues such as water, carbon, biology and human health & safety.

On May 12, we took time to salute some exceptional researchers for their passion…for their search & discovery of new ideas, and their intensity to create solutions. We heralded their innovation and thanked them for being pioneers at the 2nd Annual FAES Research Awards Ceremony, held at the Harn Museum.

President's Comments

President Bernie Machen addressed the audience of the awards ceremony. He said that being at the ceremony was like a cool drink of water on a hot day. He was encouraged to see the innovative work and research being done in IFAS. These accomplishments let him know that with our help, the University of Florida will meet the goal of being one of the top research universities in the nation.

Richard L. Jones Award

Captured in the energy, commitment and dreams of our youngest faculty is our future. For the second year, we were pleased to award the Richard L. Jones Outstanding New Faculty Research Award. Richard served as Dean for Research from 1995 to 2004. In recognition of his outstanding service to the Experiment Station and to UF/IFAS, his friends endowed and initiated this award in his name.

This award is to be presented to new, untenured faculty members who have just begun developing a distinguished record of research in their first 3 years at the University of Florida. The purpose of the award is to recognize their research program development and their recent contributions, and to provide incentives for continued excellence in research.

This year, we have two outstanding recipients. The first recipient is Dr.Kati Migliaccio. Kati is an assistant professor in agricultural and biological engineering and is located at the Tropical Research and Education Center in Homestead.
