Extending Projects

State funded projects

State projects have an automatic one-year extension (grace period). Projects may continue for one year without a request or a change in documentation. During this time, the official status of the project will be "expired."

Grant funded projects

Inform the Dean for Research Office of the official extension so that project records can be changed accordingly. Submit a copy of the recent Notice of Award, Agreement Face Sheet, etc. (as appropriate). Grant projects continue for the life of the grant plus a one-year grace period similar to State Projects.

Hatch and McIntire-Stennis funded projects

Prior to the expiration date, submit a letter requesting a one-year extension (one time only) to the Dean for Research Office. The Dean's Office, upon approval, will notify both the Office of Planning/Business Affairs and USDA/CRIS. Federal guidelines prohibit spending Federal funds on expired Federal Projects.

Regional Research funded projects

Extensions for Hatch Regional projects are determined by the "Committee-of-Nine" and are extended through the USDA/CSREES Regional Research Office. If the Committee-of-Nine designates a Hatch Regional project for termination, the performing organization has the option to extend the project for one year using regular Hatch funds. Submit a letter of request to the Dean for Research Office for a one-year extension for regular Hatch funding. The Dean's Office, upon approval, will notify both the Office of Planning/Business Affairs and USDA/CRIS. Federal guidelines prohibit spending Federal funds on expired Federal projects.

Note:

One-year extensions and automatic grace periods provide extra time for finishing project-related work and submitting replacement projects for approval as necessary.
